Winter Family Photos in Oakland

While I am primarily a San Francisco and Marin based photographer, I love traveling to the East Bay for in-home sessions, and often do for newborn and in-home family photography. The unique architecture and homes in Oakland are the perfect backdrop for cozy family photos and these family photos in Oakland this winter oozed love.

While the winter in the Bay Area can be wet and rainy, that can lend itself to even cozier family photos. In Oakland the day these were photographed, the sun was shining so we took advantage in their small front yard with bubbles, swing time and wandering up and down the street. Families tend to think they need large homes with expansive backyards and tons of light for beautiful images, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The thing that makes family photos in home so special is that they are places where your family spends so much time and have so many experiences.

I’ve had a decade of experience photographing families big and small in the Bay in below ground one bedroom apartments with one tiny window, to large sun-drenched homes in Marin and everything in between. I’ve even photographed closet bedrooms with no windows! If it’s a place that’s special to you, we will make it work.

Luckily, with a bright day, light streaming in the windows, and a family willing to have fun, lean into the chaos of a toddler and a dog, and snuggle in the softer moments, this was such a happy session, which the family loved.
