Muir Beach Family Photos

New location alert!!!

I visited this amazing West Marin location with my family this summer and was immediately smitten. From the beautiful rock formation, to the remote location (which means less crowds!), to the beautiful afternoon light (which means you can have a beach location earlier in the afternoon than sunset for little ones!), this location has everything I could possibly want. Muir Beach family photos are quickly becoming my favorite!

This family, who you might remember from their newborn photos, saw my call for a family willing to try out this awesome location and immediately jumped on it. We arrived three hours before sunset, which was perfect for their toddler with an earlier bedtime this summer. The day was plenty warm, which meant we could stick our toes in the water and not freeze our butts off. As with all Bay Area locations, you may not get a day with clear, warm weather, so you’ll want to make sure to be prepared for that. The wind did pick up at the end, as it often does on the coast, and fog, clouds and cold weather are common.

On the day and time of this session, it was also low tide, which means we were able to play in the water and access some of the areas that are not accessible during high tide. As anyone who lives here knows well, the Pacific Ocean is not to be messed with, so if we are heading towards or in a high tide during your session, we will just play on the outskirts of the water and be mindful of never turning our backs on the ocean.

Even with these elements and caveats, if you are prepared to bundle up and be flexible with the weather and tides, this location is definitely worth it.
