Studio Family Photos in Sausalito

When families ask me whether their kids will succeed in a mini session in my Bay Area studio in Sausalito in Marin County, my answer is always YES! Even though family studio sessions with me are all short 20 minute mini sessions, which I don’t always recommend for people with kids who are slower to warm up or have high energy that needs to be harnessed, the studio is the exception.

In my Sausalito studio, there is a set-up area with a table and then a small spot where we take photos with all white walls. Because the set-up is so simple and the room is relatively small, kids that are slow to warm up to strangers can see everything we are doing closely, and we can start with other groupings and family members while they watch. They also aren’t likely to be overstimulated by outside elements like weather and crowds. On the other end of the spectrum are high energy kids who can take some time to focus on what we are asking them to do. Usually with kids like this, families think they can only ‘last’ for a short session, whereas it’s usually the opposite outdoors. We need time to have them be who they are and do shorter spurts of photos with breaks for them outdoors. In the studio, however, we are in a small enclosed space, so there’s no where for them to run off, get distracted or get dirty while we try to get them on board with the photoshoot. Here we can just let them be in the space, play fun games, and are naturally more focused because there is less to worry about in the studio. I would still consider their personalities when booking a mini and if they are exceptionally slow to warm up, or you would like more candid images, which minis don’t leave a ton of time for, I would recommend a signature session to get the images you are hoping for. However, the studio is really a fabulous option for kids who otherwise might not be a good fit for an outdoor mini session.

This family had the most fun dynamic, and they quickly opened up in the studio. They came ready to play and the smaller space helped everyone focus, while also having a great time!

If you are interested in a studio session at my Sausalito studio, I release dates 8 weeks in advance, with one weekend day and one weekday (typically Fridays) each month. You can find pricing and the current openings here.
