Presidio Lawn

This San Francisco photo session location sits in the heart of the Presidio, near the Presidio Lawn, and it is one of those spots that feels instantly classic. If you want variety without hopping in the car mid session, this is a solid choice. It offers a mix of greenery, architecture, and iconic Bay Area views, all within walking distance.

The Presidio is known for its historic brick buildings, and those show up beautifully in photos. They add warmth, texture, and a very San Francisco feel without pulling focus from your family. The neutral tones work well year round and photograph nicely in both sun and overcast conditions, which is always a plus in the Bay Area where weather can change its mind quickly. These buildings are often the starting point for sessions and give galleries a clean, timeless foundation.

For longer sessions, we can move beyond the lawn into the gardens at Tunnel Tops. This area adds softer landscaping, winding paths, and more visual interest while still feeling calm and uncluttered. It is especially nice for maternity sessions or families with kids who like a little room to move. The gardens feel intentional but relaxed, which is a great combination for natural looking photos. Be warned, the bridge views and tunnel tops come with lots of crowds, especially on a nice day, so prepare for that in the section where we are using those backgrounds.

For longer sessions, we can also head toward Crissy Field. On clear days, you can get views of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. These shots are not the focus of the entire session, but they are a great way to add that unmistakable San Francisco touch to your gallery. Fog is always a possibility in this part of the Bay Area, especially in summer, so bridge views are never guaranteed and sessions are not rescheduled due to fog. Think of the bridge as a bonus, not a promise.

This San Francisco location works best for immediate families and maternity sessions. It is not recommended for extended families larger than six people. For smaller groups, though, it is a favorite Bay Area option for good reason.

Sessions at this location can take place in the afternoon hours and at sunset.
